REGENERATING THE WATER SOFTENER:
If less water needs to be softened, it will take longer before the regeneration process starts. This cycle is started in many machines based on a specific volume of processed water. If less is regenerated, less salt will also be used. If there is not enough salt present, you can still achieve the next cycle by opening the valve. This saves you salt and costs. If fewer regenerations take place, less flushing water will also be used. This is because a fixed amount of flushing water is used per regeneration.
SODIUM IN HARD WATER:
When using a water softener plant, sodium is added to the water. This is a standard process for water softening. Maximum values are set for the amount of sodium in the water. If there is a risk that this limit will be exceeded, the sodium content can be reduced with the mixing valve. A maximum of 200 mg / l is used in Belgium and Germany. This legislation also states that the water company must try to keep the value below 150 mg / l.
REGENERATE CALCULATION EXAMPLE:
When the water comes in from the water company with a value of 12 fH, and this is returned to 0 fH, 12 fH of lime must be removed from the water. Let us assume a regeneration frequency of once every six days. With a residual hardness set at 4 fH, 4/12 or 1/3 of the water is no longer softened. That is therefore a saving of 33 percent. This means that the regeneration process will only take place once every eight days, a saving of two days per cycle. This advantage also applies to the amount of regeneration salt that is required.
